Why is a rear motor drive system better?
The rear motor is preferred in many cases, but not all. If you don’t mind noise and want to climb steep hills for a long period, the mid motor system is probably a better solution for you. But if you do care about noise, than the rear motor solution is best for you.
Because the mid motor system transmit the power via the gears and chain, you can hear this. With the rear motor system the power is not transmitted via moving gears, and the motor is brushless. The only mechanical noise you hear are the pedals and chains going round.
If you care about wear, than again the rear motor system suits you better. Mid motor systems are put under considerable stress as human input is summed with motor energy and transferred to the chain, transmission and other mechanical components. With the rear motor system, power is transmitted directly. There is limited stress on traditional drive train components (chain, gears) in comparison with mid motor systems.
And most important, the power and smoothness of the ride of the rear motor systems are preferred by many dealers and consumers. Early e-bike producers initiatied development on rear motors as it is the most efficient way of providing power directly to the road. Many e-bike producers have moved to midmotor systems in search for reliability. Now rear motor technology has advanced offering the same power advantage in combination with reliability.

How long will my battery last?
The battery is probably the biggest concern of many consumers. The range consequences and costs of replacement are top of mind when they are making their choice of e-bike. We have to distinguish the two major concerns range and battery life.
How far do you want to go? What is the range that you are looking for?
You can make your choice depending on your need. Klever offers 3 sizes of high quality batteries. The 360Wh, 470Wh, and 570Wh battery. The potential range with your e-bike (not the hispeed) will be over 120 km’s.
What external factors influence your range?
The most important factors are:
The total weight of the bike. That is you and what you are carrying.
This is about wind, tire pressure, quality of the road, is the road hilly. In general, the more driving resistance, the lower the range.
Like with car driving, using the right gear effects your range. Start in the lowest gear and shift in time until you reach your desired speed is best for extending your range.
Charge your battery at room temperature if you can. That will extend your range significantly. Outside temperature is also influencing your range. With low temperatures your range will go down.
How can I influence battery life
Also here many factors are influencing the life time of the battery of an e-bike. In general, battery life of an e-bike is 3 to 6 years. You can still use it after 6 years, but it will have significantly less, most probably unsatisfying, capacity left.
The good news is, that you can significantly influence this process.
Stow your battery at the right (= around 20C) temperature
So, not too hot, not too cold. Charge an empty battery fast. Don’t put it away empty. If you want to stow it away for a long(er) period, charge it a level of around 40 to 50%.
Do not empty a battery too far
It will damage it’s capacity. So charge it in time. At least every 3 months! (also for warranty reasons!). Charge your battery at room temperature. It will use its maximum available capacity.
Using your battery will lead to less capacity (even if you do not use it, the capacity will diminish slowly).
The amount of charging cycles
Charging your high quality battery around 100 to 150 times per year (is around 2 to 3 times per week) in the right way (see above), will make its life longer than 3 yrs. Above 500 to 700 cycles its capacity is becoming unsatisfactory for most consumers. Klever is giving 2 years warranty on its batteries under the following conditions:
- not more than 700 charging cycles in those 2 years,
- recharging of the battery at least every 3 months (to prevent from coming over-discharged (="dead")), and
- not more the 60% capacity left measured at the temperature of 25 degrees Celsius.
